This book aims to introduce the most beautiful and characteristic Art Deco buildings in Budapest. Art Deco, however, can only be defined with great difficulty in terms of both its stylistic features and its timeframe. It is regarded as an independent category in that it actually comprises multiple styles, including exotic, Middle Eastern or African ornamentation, Biedermeier forms and folk art motifs, simultaneously possessing its own unique and original elements. The term Art Deco originates from an exhibition in Paris held in 1925 whereas a later exhibit of the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2003 designates a timeline extending between 1910 and 1939, which is the period largely represented in this book.
